Live animal exports are in the spotlight again after video footage was released showing Australian sheep in Pakistan being clubbed, stabbed and buried alive.
Animal rights activists and Greens MPs are calling on the government to ban live exports completely and say this is another example that the government cannot guarantee the welfare of animals sent overseas to be killed for food.
Geelong Greens MP Geoffrey Jefferson is doubtful the government will ban live exports.
Founder of Animal Liberation Victoria Patty Mark thinks it is important for Australians to voice their opinion to the government.
“The government will only take action once enough people contact them,” she said.
There will be a ban live exports protest in Melbourne’s CBD tomorrow.
