Second River Crossing Needed

The CityLink debacle on Wednesday has prompted calls for a second river crossing.

CityLink tunnels were closed due to a glitch that closed the Burnley and Domain tunnels for 12 hours.

State Transport Minister Terry Mulder told radio station 3AW something must be done about a second river crossing.

“We are reliant on that one major arterial and we can’t continue to do that,” he said.

Brooke Markewicz from Public Transport Victoria believes the government should focus on the Melbourne Metro Rail tunnel.

“A full train can carry over 1,000 people while a car usually carries one or two people, making rail much more efficient,” she said.
