One of the biggest trends to recently come out of the fashion world is sport luxe. It is fairly simple to describe the trend as the name pretty much says it all. It is a mix of looking sporty and casual whilst maintaining a luxurious and classy look. It can be simple to pull off and the best part is women can finally wear fashion that looks, and feels comfortable.
The sport luxe trend is all about clean lines, shiny material, white, black with a bit of neon thrown in. Accessories such as jewellery are also important, with accessories brands like Mimco joining the sport luxe trend and creating collections based on it.
It’s not surprising the sport luxe trend has emerged, according to Australia Business Review, the fitness industry generates about a one billion profit each year. There are 2,856 gyms in Australia which employ over 17,000 people. That’s a lot of people who wear fitness attire to work and all day. Alongside this, the fitness fashion industry has also grown. One of the biggest players in the industry, Lorna Jane, made $19.6 million in profits last financial year, up from $12.9 million in 2012.
There are over 150 Lorna Jane stores nationwide, and other fitness fashion stores from Lululemon to Bloch are also popular. Lorna Jane released its new range ‘Uniquely Lorna’ last week, which is available in online, in selected store and David Jones. The range is strongly based on the sport luxe trend. Lorna Jane herself believes in fitness fashion that looks stylish and can be worn not just in the gym but at work for instance. By wearing clothes that are can be worn for exercise, it makes the person want to work out, and feel motivated to do so.
Fitness fashion can be mixed with blazers, heels, shirts and almost anything else you can think of. It’s really about imagination and being comfortable with what you’re wearing, both mentally and physically. I have intending to buy a pair of harem style lounge pants that are currently in vogue. I showed my boyfriend some, and he mentioned how he has seen them on many women and that they seem to be “finally wearing comfortable clothes.” It’s not that other forms of fashion can’t be comfortable, but being perceived as wearing comfortable clothes in the past has meant not caring for fashion and fashion is sometimes synonymous with physical pain in order to look stylish.
There are other reasons why the sport luxe trend has been so successful. Women are caring for their health and exercising more than ever. Many women are striving for a life balancing work, family, play and exercise. The sport luxe trend is a way of blending and achieving these commitments. I am all for a fashion trend that embraces and promotes an active lifestyle.
